Catalonia: debt

Debt of the Generalitat and its public bodies compared with the other autonomous communities, as a share of each region's own GDP. Since 2012 most regions, Catalonia among them, borrow largely from the State's regional financing funds (the FLA from 2012, part of the Fondo de Financiación a CCAA from 2015) rather than from markets; that borrowing counts here as regional debt. A 2025 bill for the State to take over part of this debt (about €17bn for Catalonia) had not changed these figures by mid-2026: the series shows no such drop.
